When you’re suffering from anxiety, over time, you become disabled. It becomes more difficult to perform regular daily routines. You don’t want to go out, meet with friends, work, and soon you’re not accomplishing anything. This can be very depressing. It’s often shown that anxiety turns into depression. However, unlike depression, which is treated with antidepressants, and often taken for an extended period, anxiety medications such as benzodiazepines can be addictive, resulting in long-term dependence. So many psychiatrists are now reluctant to prescribe these drugs for anxiety disorder.
Researchers have been investigating the benefits of using CBD oil for a variety of conditions. CBD stands for Cannabidiol, which is one of the two primary compounds found in the marijuana plant. Unlike THC, CBD oil is effective at small doses and doesn’t produce the same euphoric high.
Many studies have investigated the effects of CBD oil on neurocognitive disorders such as anxiety and depression. Clinical studies have found that CBD may possess antipsychotic properties.
In one trial looking at individuals suffering from a social anxiety disorder, a 600-milligram dose of CBD oil reduced anxiety and cognitive impairment. In a similar experiment, it was also found a 300-milligram dose of CBD oil also reduced symptoms of anxiety during public speaking. However, it was also shown that using a 100 or 900-milligram dose had little to no benefit. Suggesting that too much or too little can affect the potential effectiveness of using CBD oil against anxiety.
A paper was published in a respected medical journal entitled Cannabidiol as a Potential Treatment for Anxiety Disorders. The authors studied 49 preclinical, clinical, epidemiological, and neuroimaging studies to determine whether CBD had a role as a potential treatment option for anxiety-related disorders. They concluded that CBD oil effectively reduced anxiety behaviors relevant to multiple disorders, including PTSD, obsessive-compulsive disorder, panic disorder, and social anxiety disorder. They also found a lack of anxiogenic effects, meaning CBD did not add to anxiety symptoms.
A three-month study of 103 adults found that nearly 80 percent of the participants who were given CBD oil reported improved anxiety symptoms, which remained improved for the study duration.

CBD oil slows the heart rate, as our heart rate slows down, we feel more relaxed and less tense. So CBD oil can help take the edge off anxiety and help you back to sleep. CBD oil not only helps with anxiety but has the side benefit of reducing joint pain as well. Without the side-effect of feeling groggy in the morning found with other sleep medications.
For this reason, Doctors have been prescribing CBD oil as an alternative to Xanax, the anti-anxiety drug. CBD oil has also been used to minimize the side effects that people experience when coming off antidepressants.
Taking CBD oil or another supplement, while useful, isn’t always going to necessarily address the underlying reason for why you’re dealing with anxiety in the first place. For professional advice and support with anxiety symptoms to get back to work and take part in active social life, it is always recommended to consult with a therapist or a physician to get to the root cause.
